Sukh Dhaliwal tables petition on loss of Air Canada service personnel jobs in Greater Vancouver
June 12th, 2007(OTTAWA) Sukh Dhaliwal, Liberal Member of Parliament for Newton-North Delta, tabled a petition in the House of Commons today bringing attention to the loss of over 800 Air Canada service personnel jobs in Greater Vancouver.
“The simple fact of the matter is that the Conservative Government has done nothing to stem the tide of good paying manufacturing jobs moving abroad and it has scaled back or even cancelled programs that help workers and their families,” said Dhaliwal.
The petition, which has been signed by over 600 British Columbians to date, calls on the government to “take immediate action to protect the security of worker’s pensions and access to employment related benefits; to work with the BC Government to develop an economic plan to enhance and maintain the aerospace industry and manufacturing sector; and to address Canada’s competitive disadvantage and the outsourcing of positions to foreign low-cost facilities.”
“This Government’s investments in the aerospace industry have been focused on specific parts of Canada and it is increasingly apparent that for this Conservative Government, Canada ends at the Rockies. Hopefully it is through petitions such as this, signed by working British Columbians, that we will finally get this Conservative Government to pay attention,” concluded Dhaliwal.
