FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(SURREY) Yesterday, Sukh Dhaliwal visited Phase II of the Seniors’ Assisted Living Complex located at 10275 75A Avenue in Surrey. Built in conjunction with BC Housing and the Fraser Health Authority, this 72 unit facility will provide 24-hour care to seniors needing assistance in personal and medical care, emotional and psychological support and activities of daily living. They will offer meal services, housekeeping, laundry, social and recreational programs as well as a 24-hour emergency response system.
The complex is designed specifically for South Asian seniors and will provide them with culturally appropriate programs and meals with staff fluent in Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu and Fijian Hindi.
“I am pleased at the work that PICS has done to provide such a beautifully furnished facility that fills a need for our seniors who have worked long and hard but now need some assistance with their care. I am particularly encouraged that the complex will accept couples and appeal to South Asian seniors as this fills a need that has been lacking in this community”, Dhaliwal says.
“I congratulate Mr. Charan Gill and the board and staff of PICS on the design and completion of this Assisted Living Complex”, Dhaliwal exclaimed. “This caps off a large body of work that PICS has accomplished for the community, from counseling services and legal advocacy to settlement and employment services, among others.”

Earlier, Sukh Dhaliwal also held a luncheon at the Kennedy Seniors Centre in North Delta. Dozens of seniors braved the inclement weather to share lunch with Sukh and his staff and to discuss issues related to Federal Government services to seniors.

During a brief public discussion, Sukh also took questions from the attendees on issues ranging from Canada’s role in Afghanistan to the scourge of marijuana grow-ops and the efforts to get tougher on crime.
